Just my opinion.

C'mon you men fess up and post your kitty pictures

The white and ginger boykie is JJ (Just Jinger)
The ginger one is Wiley as in Coyote.
The grey lassie is Liksie as in liquid.

JJ where he is at his prettiest.

Remember real men can do what they goddam like.
I have been an animal lover all my life.
Cats are very dear to me.

JJ is not with us and his brother and sister any more.
He was the one and only that turned the Mother into the Cat's Mother.

Photo's from about 7 years ago in Botswana.

Yes Maeve, they are so pretty.
I hope FC gets it right for you.

Libby they are two brothers and a sister from one litter. Their mother Tatsie is still living with us. She must have had a roving eye to produce all those colours.

Keesie, they are just too beauteous. And nicely arranged in the flowers, there! Without a dog to harass them like here.

Give them earscritches from me!

Oh, geez. I forgot about sweet Thumpy. Do you have another doggie now? We do. Dot. Beebs wouldhave wanted us to get her.

Bless the kittehs and doggehs.

That's a fine bunch you have there.

My four are all over my blog, and I've been told by my daughter and son and ex-wife that I'll be getting a kitten soon to add to the bunch. I'm naming him "Peeve" as in "That's my pet, Peeve."

A little bite to eat - or not

I let the little feller go, he was only 7 inches accross, not my normal of 12.

Excuses ..... excuses ..... blah etc.

It was pitch dark and late at night so the picture quality can be excused.

Snow in Africa

Not the cold stuff though.
For people who, have never seen snow, we have a vast number of names for it.
The pictures above we call 'kapok', which means a light type of snow.
People who suffer from hay fever better stay out of here in the months October to December.
Once the sun gets hold of that bloated pink nose and it starts peeling they really love it here.

A poem

You didn't know Keesie has his poetic side? Neither did we...

I like to sit upon my stoep
And eat a little chicken soep
The taste, it throws me for a loep
And then I have to go and poep

I'm new at this; I am a roekje
I'll place a bet and call my boekje
And now I'm off to get some noekje
It's better than a sugar koekje

I like it. Poop poems are hard to come by these days.

We are becoming a bunch of sissies

Lusaka airport now have fans.
It is only about 45 deg C or 113 deg F, so what the hell.

If the concourse at O'Hare international airport in Chicago ever got to 113 degrees, it would be a big hairy crisis and people would be filing lawsuits.
It amazes me the range of conditions people live perfectly well. What's really strange is the rigid climate control that is considered "normal".

Faking it

The story starts with the fishing being bad and the devious mind of woman being ever present.
So the girls buy a fish or two from the local store and set up this eleborate series of "fishing" shots.
When the men return after a hot day under the African sun and nothing to show for their effort, they are met with a nice fish dish and these photos.
The fish tasted bitter.

The truth emerged much later.

I'm pretty sure these are called *Blood Lilies,* or African blood lilies.

They're in the Amaryllis family. If you like Amaryllis, this will sound strange, because they look very different. Blood lilies look just like alliums (onion family), as Bobg noticed.

One day I will have a nice crop of my very own. They supposedly do well here - although I don't think I've seen any around.

Here's a little more info:

Nice birds - Shitty shots

These Bateleurs have decided to settle in our area.
I heard word that they were around but have not seen them until yesterday.
Beautiful creatures and very strong.
This is a good sign that the conservation policy implemented by the mine is working.

You know about the birds and the bees. So we might be looking forward to some

Bateleur chicks.

After tantelizing you with these pics I suppose I must show you what a bateleur eagle looks like.

You know, one taken by a proper photographer.

This shot from these kind folks

I would rather see them live in the wild

OMG! I want one! Stunning! At least he did not poop on you when you took the picture.

Gorgeous birds. I haven't seen the likes of them before.

You see the greatest things....

Holy crapaloni. I want what's in your camera.

Wow. That's an eagle. You're lucky to have such rich and varied wildlife around you. Kind of makes up for the dust I suppose.

A colage of dogs from my colages

Back Row.
Hagar and Bianca pyrenean mountain dogs and Bowzer my loving Bulldog.
Front Bowzer in profile and Missie the stupid.
Bowser was a super speciman and very good with kids.
As a todler my littlest pumpkin used to grab him by the tail and screamed with joy as he pulled her through the garden.
She also experimented with trying to pull his tongue out.
He loved the attention.
Hagar chased the light of a torch or a shadow.
Very easy to keep him fit

A previous story about Hagar and Bianca Here

Nice looking dogs. Do you still have any pets or just those ants in the big anthills, to keep you company?

Not to be anal or anything, because it is a lovely duck, but shouldn't it look like this?

An deathly embrace

Breakfast.

Maybe the one in the left top corner is saying "Leave someting for me"

The brown one is eating the green one alive.

Comments:

Are they mating?

"The brown one is eating the green one alive."
As a matter of fact, mantids always eat their prey alive; they will not eat dead prey, and cannot even perceive their prey unless it is moving. If an insect does not move, the mantis does not notice it, no matter how close it is.
# posted by BobG : Monday, November 13, 2006 12:03:57 AM

What puzzles me is that the female mantid is almost always the larger one - and the coloration, one green and one brown, is usually green female, brown male.
Famously, the female may eat the male during mating. But only if she's hungry.
And the male - knowing this ahead of time - takes preventive measures. But if he's eaten? She eats the head first - including the part of their teensy brain that makes the male more cautious - and mating is more successful.
I'm getting the impression you may be a fellow bug lover and already know all that.
So...why, in this pic, would we be watching what seems to be a male eating a female?!?

Perversion in the Animal kingdom?
Yes k I know a bit but I am not an expert at all.
The brown one had eaten a chunk out of the green and the green was still feebly waving its horns/feelers.
# posted by KeesKennis : Monday, November 13, 2006 7:27:57 AM

I did not see any sign of mating.
# posted by KeesKennis : Monday, November 13, 2006 7:28:42 AM

Wow.
Really, I'm speechless.
Yes. I'd have to agree. This seems VERY perverted to me!
Pix of abnormal insect behavior can be of great interest to the scientists who most love that particular species. Who knows? Perhaps the world's leading mantid expert will come by and covet your photos. Then you'll have yet another claim to fame!

Why am I hearing that song? You always hurt -- the one you love...

For the girls

That lighter is just over 3 inches long.

This boykie decided to expire on my stoep last night.

Anybody ready to share some recipes?

Comments:

Huh. I get cockroaches bigger than than.
Plus they fly.

Mmmmm! Crunchy! Of course, I live in Florida. Our larva come equipped with fangs and regardless of what you've been told, the tick, not the skeeter, is the state bird!

Yeah, I figured it flew. But beetles generally do.
Cockroaches generally don't. So these here are SPECIAL cockroaches.

Now and then, Florida and Texas - which likes to think it has the Biggest of Everything - have a Biggest Cockroach Contest.
We always win. They prevaricate and bluster and say we stretched 'em out.
Ha! Don't need to.

That would make some nice jewelry, too.

I never heard of any other pet cockroaches besides the hissing kind.
One thing about your huge giants?
At least they don't fly.

Hawaii has some big roaches that also fly. I remember seeing some thing crawling in the kitchen and I remarked that it was the biggest cockroach I had seen and my mother corrected me by explain that it was a field mouse....yep they are big in Hawaii.
# posted by LeeAnn : Monday, November 13, 2006 8:51:48 AM

WHAT?!?! So what was it - a mouse or a mouse-sized roach? Yikes!
Now if it flew, it was probably not a mouse.

I'm sure Sandy does over at Pea Patch.
That girl has a recipe for everything.
# posted by Maeve : Monday, November 13, 2006 4:10:19 PM

K---it was a small mouse. But the cockroaches are big there and all of them like to fly directly into your face. You don't dare walk into a dark room without first turning on the lights.

Oh Kees, you shouldn't have..... No, I really mean --- You SHOULDN'T have posted this. Yikes.

Uncomfortable

I asked a co-worker to take this.

He clearly can't take good pictures.

I wasn't feeling bad or uncomfortable, but it looks like I am about to puke.

Wow 11 comments for a crappy pic!!!

Thank you all for the funny comments.

Most of these anthills have been dead for centuries, sure we have ants and other goggas aplenty but the ants dont bother at all.

The anthills are very durable because of the spit/soil mix their creators used.

Make that 12!!!
