It is important to wear flotation devices even when the water is not deep.

YIKES!!
My husband takes his flotation vest off, so he can get a tan. He wants to look 'manly'. (Don't know how that'll help if he's dead under a snag, 6 feet under. I tell him I'll not be diving under to get him.)

Getting a Tan got a colleague (CvM) killed
His canoe was tilted by a croc and he drowned.
His unmolested and uneaten body washed up.
All this took place in about 4 foot of water, he panicked and did not float.
