Lions kill hyena
Here is an awsome video of a pair of male lions killing a hyena.
Maeve and Lisa not to watch.
Many moons ago I saw a scene like the one in the video. The power of a lion is something that a human cannot comprehend. That day the lion, a big male, broke the hyena's neck with a single blow and as a encore he crushed his head.
Comments:
Damn! That was intense. I can't believe the hyenas went over close to them as the lions were eating their buddy. Were they morbidly curious, sad, or just plain stupid?

I should have added that the lions don't eat the hyena they just kill and maul it.
Lisa the heyanas were still looking if they can get a bite in to hurt the lions.

Post Office
A guy goes to the U.S. Post Office to apply for a job.
The interviewer asks him, "have you been in the service?"
"Yes," he says, "I was in Vietnam for three years."
The interviewer says, "That will give you extra points toward employment."
And then asks, "Are you disabled in any way?"
The guy says, "Yes, 100%. A mortar round exploded near me and blew my testicles off."
The interviewer tells the guy, "O.K. I can hire you right now! . The hours are from 8:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M.
You can start tomorrow. Come in at 10:00 A.M."
The guy is puzzled and says, "If the hours are from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM
then why do you want me to come in at 10:00 AM?"
"This is a government job," the interviewer says.
"For the first two hours we stand around scratching our balls.
No point in you coming in for that."

I know that in Missouri where I'm from, noodlers can get get catfish that weigh up to 100 lbs.
Noodling is where the fisherman gets in the water and puts his arm into the side of the river bank and feels around in the crevices. when he feels a catfish he sticks his arm in it's mouth, grabs the gills and pulls it out.
The pics are probably real.
You can tell a noodler by the ring of scars encircling their forearm.

Whether those are real or not, I cannot say, but my dad (an old Zambia hand) used to catch catfish (usually called barbel in Africa) and tigerfish in some of the rivers in Zambia. There was also a much larger catfish called Vundu which was about that size. Whether that is them(they?) I don't know.
Then for a catfish to be really feared we have the Candiru

Looks like a big Mississippi River Flathead Cat..I have seen many of them over 100 pounds and caught one so big one time that when I was trying to get it in the boat I pulled its head plumb off! I took a picture of the head and it weighed 15 pounds..I would post that picture but it is so heavy it would break my scanner..

we call it (hand) grabbling here in Misssissippi We have causght them up to 80lbs. Those look in that range. I have heard og bigger on the river and other places. Probably caught in traps using diving equipment.

Looks real to me. Over at Moncks Corner in South Carolina they pull cats out of that damned area weighing over 125 pounds. I have never caught one that big. The best eating cats are those around 10 to 20 inches long. My cousin and I use to put out lines at night and go back the next day and have about 30 catfish on the hooks. Good white meat and the smaller ones are very tender and sweet. River fish always taste a lot better than pond or farm raised cats.

That's real. I used to work on a catfish farm. My brother-in-law and I wrestled one bigger than that out of a pond and into a tank truck. It beat the crap out of us, and we ended up having to winch it into the tank with the small crane mounted on the back of the truck. My bro took the barb all the way through his hand. Nearly lost his hand. They wouldn't let me shoot that damn fish, or I woulda.

Then for a catfish to be really feared we have the Candiru http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Candir%C3%BA

To my eye this is not right
LeeAnn said here, I like zebras too. Are they good for anything except as an exhibit in the zoo?
The answer is, maybe.
I report you judge.
What would the Lone Ranger call this mode of transport?

Moths - Outside my office
I found this moth on the concrete walkway outside my office this morning.
The ruler indicates 150 mm (6 inches)accross.
More detail of the landing gear and navigation room.
They normaly live in these trees, so if they don't move you do not see them.
Cunning colours, no.
A smaller one that did not want to open his wings.

Reminds me of the big sphinx moths we have around here; the most common larval form of them is the tomato worm in this area. I wonder if the moth Kees is showing is a type of sphinx moth.

My littlest Pumpkin to be engaged
Vida has accepted Pierre's proposal.
My heart is heavy and light at the same time.
You raise them to be as independant as they can be.
And then they become independant. Shit.
I cried more with joy than with pain though.
I believe and hope that they will be happy together.
I was prepared in the sense that Pierre asked me during the holidays if I had any objection to what he was thinking.
I also remember my late wife and Vida's mother, Esta. She would have been thrilled to bits
Some pictures of her life.
Travel well Pumpkin, travel well.
Your Papa.

Rag ear and baby
It is amazing to see how tender and affectionate these rough, tough male lions can be with their offspring. They let them climb all over them, bite their ears etc.
When the baby lion gets too boisterous the male gets up and walks away.
If they take over a pride with young ones from other males they tend to kill the babies. They do this so that the mother can mate with them sooner, and their genes get to be carried forward.
Comments:
I hear that it sends the females right back into estrus. Nature's way.
It's wonderful to see them with their kids. Hmmm...NOT that it would put us in mind of any OTHER rough tough male lions out there...
