Big trucks - Big toys

This fleet of 9 trucks shifts 10,000 tons of earth per day (a good day).
Because they travel fast for their 25 ton (55,000 lbs) load and I don’t want to be flattened, the sequence is posed. It is not the same truck in all the pictures.

We are building a dam that will take 320,000 cubic meters of earth and the material comes from a channel that will divert the river.

Driving one of these monsters at 60 km per hour gives one a sense of invincibility.
My own weight becomes so small in comparison that it is not a factor. Niiiiice.

Each wheel has it's own traction motor similar to one on a locomotive. The company I worked for years ago used to repair the motors, back when I was a motor and armature winder.

Bob you are bragging.
That bugger has almost 4 times the carying capacity of my Dinky Toy.

What did I say about bragging?

Those motors were nothing; I've also rewound and armature that weighed in excess of 23 tons, and the exciter at Hoover Dam.
Damn, but it was great being young...

I saw some of those monsters at an open pit copper mine in New Mexico. The mine was so big, they looked like tiny Matchbox toy trucks down in the bottom levels of the mine.
